  • Construction training fund offsets extra mature-age costs

See if you qualify for apprentice funding or upskilling support.

Earlier this year Construction Training Fund launched a pilot program to assist employers in taking on mature-age apprentices.

This $3.44 million Mature-Age Wage-Gap pilot program was created after consultation with industry and feedback around the extra wage cost being a burden for construction industry businesses wanting to hire mature-age apprentices and trainees.

It is just one of the ways your levy is making a contribution to delivering a job-ready, skilled WA construction industry workforce.

The funding, which is designed to reduce the gap between mature-age and junior rates, is in addition to other CTF grants.

Our CEO Tiffany Allen says the pilot gives industry employers more support to face extra work demands. “That’s industry supporting industry,” Ms Allen says.

Employers who are successful applicants for the program, who have hired mature-age apprentices in one of 10 priority trades after February 22 this year, will save about $16,000 in the first year of a three-year apprenticeship and $23,000 overall.

The 10 trades are Brick and Blocklaying; Carpentry/Carpentry & Joinery; Civil Construction (Cert III traineeship); Concreting; Painting and Decorating; Plastering; Plumbing & Gasfitting; Roof Plumbing; Wall and Ceiling Fixing and Wall and Floor Tiling.

Electrical Group Training has its own program for electrical mature-age apprentices.
