National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) held their annual awards breakfast on Friday 1st Nov at Westin Hotel, hosted by Journalist and TV Presenter Jan Fran. The Ballroom was filled with construction industry representatives from a multitude of companies plus all the award nominees and judges.
The awards breakfast is designed to celebrate a range of women and their contributions to the industry. The morning commenced with a welcome to country from Carol Innes which was followed by a talk from the minister for Community Services, Children’s interests and Women’s Interests The Hon Simone McGuirk.
Natalie Busch and Miriam D’Souza the Presidents of NAWIC WA chapter addressed the group with what NAWIC have been creating over the past year as well as presenting a short film from the NAWIC Crazy Cranes event held a few weeks ago.
Breakfast was served shortly after and award presentations were underway. There were eight categories of awards with each acknowledging a commendation award and the final winner.Events like this are crucial for recognising the efforts and contribution of women within the construction industry.
The statement of ‘you can’t be what you can’t see’ was echoed by many of the speakers and a push that it is our responsibility to be the leading light for future girls and women to see a career in the construction industry as a viable option for them.
The construction training fund were honoured to be a part of this event and thank NAWIC for their continued works within the construction industry in WA.
