Whether it’s testing, installing or repairing faults, this job is crucial in keeping the power flowing.
Electrical engineering technicians interpret designs and technical instructions from an electrical engineer and ensure that they are accurately implemented. They also develop, install, test and maintain equipment that produces, transmits or uses power. An average day could involve preparing charts, drawings and test models from instructions, technical data and system requirements to assessing the condition of electrical equipment. In the construction industry, electrical engineering technicians usually work under the direction of electrical engineers and associates in all stages of planning, design, production and maintenance of structures, with only some hands-on activity during the construction phase.
