Accommodation Allowance

Apprentice Accommodation Allowance Program

Get funding assistance when you travel for your off-the-job training.

At CTF, we can provide an accommodation allowance to apprentices and trainees living in regional WA who need to travel to attend scheduled off-the-job training with an RTO.  The allowance covers the difference between their rebate from the Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) and their-out-of-pocket expenses for commercial accommodation

Am I eligible?

You must be a regional apprentice or trainee registered with the DTWD, in one of the apprenticeship or traineeship programs recognised in our CTF employer grants program, with an active training status.

The eligibility criteria are:

  • Weekday stays only
  • Commercial accommodation when required to travel more than 100km (200km round trip) from residential address, based on the shortest possible road distance to the closest approved training venue
  • No extra accommodation costs are covered including internet, linen and meals
  • Meet the requirements of the apprenticeship and traineeship policy

How do I claim?

Eligible apprentices and trainees can make a claim by submitting the following documents to CTF. Claims must be submitted within 60 days of the date of the last day of the training period.

You will need:

  • Accommodation claim form initially provided to DTWD)
  • Tax invoice from the accommodation provider
  • Proof of payment
  • Verification from the Registered Training Organisation of complete attendance during training
  • Statement of contribution made by DTWD

Please note: Our accommodation allowance is supplementary. The final amount of assistance to an eligible apprentice is based on the amount paid for the accommodation as per the invoice, less the amount of the allowance provided by DTWD and will not exceed $70 per night’s accommodation.

How Much Can I Get Back?

You can get up to $1,400 assistance annually with commercial accommodation costs as part of CTF’s accommodation allowance program.

Eligible apprentices and trainees can claim up to $70 per day, to a maximum of $1,400 per financial year.

For example:

Accommodation invoice                                  $130 per night

DTWD allowance                                                  $70 per night

Difference                                                                  $60 per night

CTF allowance                                                      $60 per night

Accommodation invoice                                  $150 per night

DTWD allowance                                                  $70 per night

Difference                                                                  $80 per night

CTF allowance                                                      $70 per night
