WA Premier Hon. Roger Cook has announced an additional 175 places are being added to the Group Training Organisation (GTO) Wage Subsidy Program, with a $21.6 million investment aimed at creating more pathways for Western Australians to pursue building and construction apprenticeships, allowing them to earn as they learn on the job.
This expansion, funded through the Construction Training Fund, empowers GTOs to offer even more opportunities for Western Australians to complete apprenticeships or traineeships. With this increase in funding, the total investment in the program now reaches $109.4 million, supporting a total of 775 places for construction apprentices and trainees so far.
The Premier commented: "building our construction workforce is the key to unlocking more homes" and Minister for Workforce and Training Development Hon. Simone McGurk stated: "The GTO Wage Subsidy has been a big hit with small and medium businesses, and these additional places will help even more of them with the cost of taking on an apprentice - building a pipeline of workers for many years to come."
