Construction Industry Strategic Group (CISG)
The CISG’s final meeting for the year was held on the 9 December 2019, new committee members including those from the resources sector were welcomed.
The CISG’s new terms of reference aims to focus on the strategic direction of the construction industry skills requirements, identify future skills requirements for the industry and provide advice and recommendations to the Building and Construction Industry Training Board.
The committee is comprised of experienced representatives from the construction and resources sectors.
Establishment and Variation of Apprenticeship Committee (EVAC) for Civil Construction Qualifications.
The Construction Training Council (CTC) has been working closely with the newly formed training committee established by the Civil Construction Federation (CCF). The committee expressed an interest in varying several qualification outcomes from traineeship to apprenticeship pathways.
The CCF/Civil Train lodged two submissions with the State Training Board (STB) to alter the following qualifications from traineeships to apprenticeships in early 2020:
- RII30815 – Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations
- RII31615 – Certificate III in Trenchless Technology
The success of the variation submissions will depend on industry’s response.

State Priority Occupation List (SPOL)
The CTC has begun consultations with industry to obtain feedback for the Department of Training and Workforce Developments annual SPOL. The SPOL informs and guides workforce planning and development for Western Australia. The SPOL process commences on the 7 February 2020 and final list is due for publication on 30 June 2020.

Training Package Developments
The CTC in conjunction with the Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) have reviewed several key Cases for Endorsement projects that are due for submission to the Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC) on the 25 February 2020.
