Apprentice Completion Grant

Get $2,000 and an additional $500 tool reimbursement when you complete your apprenticeship or traineeship.

Apprentice Completion Grant applications are closed as of September 30 2024. New and existing apprentices and trainees may be eligible for the CTF Apprentice Support Bonus.

What is it?

The Apprentice Completion Grant is a one-off payment of $2,000 for eligible construction apprentices and trainees who complete their apprenticeship between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024. An additional $500 (maximum) reimbursement is also available to these apprentices as repayment for the purchase of work-related tools and/or safety equipment.

How do I claim the Apprentice Completion Grant?

To claim, simply login to the CTF portal and navigate to Apprentice Completion Grant and/or Completion Tools Rebate.

For the Completion Tools Rebate, you will need to upload copies of your receipts with the date, amount and description clearly visible. You can submit more than one claim, however the maximum amount payable to you is $500. All claims must be submitted by 30 September 2024 for purchases within the 2023/24 financial year.

    APPRENTICE COMPLETION GRANT FAQs

    I’m a trainee, am I eligible?+

    Yes. Construction trainees who complete their training between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024 are eligible for the payment.

    Are there any courses not eligible?+

    Only apprenticeships and traineeships in the building and construction sector are eligible.

    Can I claim the tool and safety equipment reimbursement more than once?+

    Yes, you can submit multiple claims. However, a maximum of $500 will be reimbursed for expenses incurred between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024.

    I claimed the Apprentice Tool Allowance. Can I claim again?+

    Yes. The Apprentice Tool Allowance (ATA) was a reimbursement program that covered relevant expenses incurred between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023.

    If you claimed a reimbursement through the ATA, you can still submit a claim for work-related tool and safety equipment expenses through the Apprentice Completion Grant. However, you must complete your training between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024 and only tools and safety equipment purchased between 1 July 2023 and 30 September 2024 are eligible for reimbursement.

    Can I claim the reimbursement if I don’t complete my training by 30 June 2024?+

    No. The reimbursement is only available to apprentices who complete their training within the specified dates.

    When will I receive the payment?+

    Payments will be processed within 30days.

    I’m an employer. What do I need to know?+

    This initiative is designed to directly support apprentices and trainees, so no involvement is required from employers. The apprentice is responsible for submitting any claims through our CTF portal. All payments are made directly to the student.

    If you have an apprentice or trainee due to finish their training by 30 June 2024, you may wish to send them this information.

    How will this program benefit the industry?+

    By incentivising apprentices to complete their apprenticeship, there will be more fully qualified tradespeople in WA’s construction industry. As a result of more skilled workers, we can help ensure a sustainable construction workforce.

    How long do I have to claim?+

    You have until 30 September 2024 to submit your claim for the tool and safety equipment reimbursement. However, the expenses must be incurred between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024.

    How long will the Apprentice Completion Grant program run?+

    This is a pilot program that commenced on 1 July 2023 for a 12-month period. Please keep an eye on the CTF website for updates on future programs.

    How will this program benefit the industry?

    By incentivising students apprentices to complete their qualifications, there will be more fully qualified trades in WA’s construction industry. As a result of more skilled workers, we can help ensure a sustainable construction workforce.
