Construction Training Fund (CTF) recently launched the Disaster Recovery Construction Training Grant (DRCTG), a program intended to assist communities impacted by the Wooroloo bushfires and Cyclone Seroja.
The two year $3.5m investment offers additional CTF support to employers, apprentices and trainees who are participating in re-building works, including an added incentive offered to regional employers.

Currently, CTF provides grants of up to $21,000 to eligible businesses that employ an apprentice or trainee to help with the costs of training. The Disaster Recovery Construction Training Grant will provide extra support for employers who are part of the rebuild process in the disaster affected areas of Woorloo and Seroja.

CTF has also launched other initiatives as part of the program to ensure the workforce in disaster regions is sufficiently skilled.
We will fully subsidise eligible applicants who complete short training courses that are recognised in CTF’s Supplementary Skills Program.
Try-a-Trade is a CTF funded program targeted at year 9 and 10 students to experience three days learning the hands-on skills of trades. To support the ongoing capacity building of the region, the program seeks to focus the Try-a-Trade opportunities at Central Regional TAFE. This involves an additional funding allocation to the Try-a-Trade program.
This program also seeks to support those dealing with the logistical, social and psychological impacts that the construction industry and local communities face during a period of recovery. Information already gathered through early engagement highlighted an increased need for support.

MATES in Construction is uniquely placed to provide these support services through the MATES Case Management Service along with aspects of the MATES Suicide Awareness Training Program. Through a series of regional trips, facilitated by MATES Field Officers, quarterly activities will focus on community engagement, training and capacity building, information and access to support services for workers. The cost of for these services over a two-year timeframe, equates to an investment of $70,384.
