Support for Schools and Teachers

Access career development resources and motivate school students to consider a construction career.

Encourage students to build their work-ready skills with educational, valuable and age-appropriate resources. The Constructions Futures team connects teachers with the essentials to help students find their career of choice.

We support schools and teachers through:

The Construction Futures Centre

Our educational and engaging centre has a range of career resources and interactive exhibits to assist school students. Each learning activity is linked to the WA Curriculum’s work-ready skills and allows teachers to create a focused experience.

Inspire your students to explore their options in the building industry, without prior work skills. Our team runs free excursions for groups of up to 50 to show students the career opportunities in construction and try their hands at different tasks. Alternatively, the Construction Futures Centre is open for functions and networking events. Bookings are essential.

Career Development Resources

Use learning activities to guide students in determining if the construction industry is the right move for them.

Access free career development resources, activity worksheets, teacher manuals and curriculum links in one place. Help students understand the industry and its benefits while they explore career pathways such as tertiary education or apprenticeships. Our resources support school students from Year 8 to Year 12.

Try-A-Trade

Give your students the chance to try a trade.

Our Try-A-Trade program is fully funded by the Construction Training Fund. The program encourages school students and leavers to test various trades before making their career move. Students undergo hands-on training and preparation for a career in construction in a way that is exciting and valuable.

Enjoy the following benefits:

✓ Courses run during school hours

✓ Try a combination of trades in one course

✓ Gain in-demand job skills

Career Taster for Year 9 Students

This program is for young people still in school who are career curious and want a taste of the building and construction industry.

Our Construction Futures team works with teachers and students to assist in discovering their ideal roles. Students can unlock trade opportunities, gain practical skills and complete career development training.

Pre-Apprenticeship Scholarships

Pre-apprenticeships allow students to gain a competitive advantage. Year 11 and 12 students combine work experience with training and education to better plan career options and find their career of choice.

Students will learn how to maintain safe working conditions and work effectively with others, as well as increase their job opportunities in the industry. They can increase their skills and even potentially show them off in competitions.

Pre-apprenticeships provide benefits such as:

✓ Preferred prerequisite for entering the industry

✓ May reduce time as an apprentice

✓ Fully funded by the Construction Training Fund

✓ Strong employment demand for students who have undertaken pre-apprenticeships

We are now taking expressions of interest for 2023.

Industry Training Advisors

Our ITAs support schools, teachers and career practitioners in facilitating educational talks with students. Via presentations, hands-on activities, career resources, expos and funded programs, students can uncover the different pathways to a role in construction.

ITAs can attend career expos and discussions at schools. They also communicate with training providers to ensure students have the best learning experience and are receiving the right support.

Our team of ITA’s help connect you with:

✓ Industry intelligence on workforce needs

✓ Well-positioned knowledge to help students forge a satisfying and rewarding career

✓ Quality training and program delivery
